Bulgaria: Israeli coach Shum resigns as Litex Lovech coach [Wed Dec 31st, 1969]

Sofia (Reuters) - Israeli coach Itzhak Shum resigned as coach of Bulgarian club Litex Lovech after their 1-0 defeat to league leaders CSKA Sofia, a club official said.

"Shum submitted his resignation following a number of losses and the team's unconvincing performances," Litex Lovech general manager Stanimir Stoilov told BTV television.

Nobody at the club was immediately available, but BTV reported that Litex's former Serb midfielder and coach Dragoljub Simonovic had taken over and was overseeing a training session.

The 56-year-old Shum, who in October resigned as coach of Greek champions Panathinaikos, signed an 18-month contract with Litex last November.

Litex, champions in 1997-98 and 1998-99, are fourth in the Bulgarian first division, 25 points behind leaders CSKA Sofia with four games remaining.
