Belgium: Genk lose Engelaar [Thu Aug 25th, 2005]

Genk have suffered a blow with the news that striker Orlando Engelaar will undergo an exploratory knee operation.

Engelaar has been suffering from the injury since the start of the new season and will now go under the surgeon's knife in an attempt to finally clear up the problem.

"Engelaar has suffered from knee problems ever since the season started and an adjusted training programme did not help," said coach Hugo Broos.

"He can't play without feeling pain. So we will grant him the time to let doctors examine the knee."

The 26-year-old forward has played in all three of Genk's opening league fixtures, but is now set for a lengthy spells on the sidelines.
