Argentina add Delgado to squad for Paraguay match [Thu Aug 25th, 2005]
Buenos Aires (Reuters) - Argentina have added Mexican-based winger Cesar Delgado to their squad for next month's World Cup qualifier away to Paraguay.
The Cruz Azul striker was a regular when Marcelo Bielsa coached Argentina, but has found it hard to force his way into the squad since Jose Pekerman took over last October.
Pekerman had named the bulk of his squad last week and he completed the list with the addition of Delgado along with Roberto Abbondanzieri and German Lux as his two goalkeepers for the match in Asuncion on September 3.
Argentina lead the 10-nation South American group with 31 points from 15 games and have already qualified for next year's World Cup finals in Germany.
Teenage striker Lionel Messi was also included despite his disastrous debut when he was sent off less than two minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 friendly win away to Hungary.
