Mexico: Azcargorta enjoys winning start as Guadalajara coach [Thu Aug 25th, 2005]
Mexico (Reuters) - Guadalajara gave new coach Xavier Azcargorta a winning start when Mexico's most popular club beat Sinaloa 1-0 at the Jalisco stadium.
Striker Adolfo Bautista met Ramon Morales's teasing cross with a glancing header to score the only goal in the 30th minute.
Spaniard Azcargorta replaced Benjamin Galindo, who was surprisingly sacked last week in a decision which upset many Guadalajara fans.
Meanwhile, titleholders America remained unbeaten with a 2-1 win at home to Santos Laguna.
Brazilian striker Kleber scored both goals as the Eagles raced to a 2-0 half-time lead at the Azteca stadium.
Chilean-born striker Rodrigo "Pony" Ruiz pulled one back for Santos in the 67th minute, but the visitors were unable to forge an equaliser.
America lead Group One of the Apertura championship with 13 points from five games, five ahead of Necaxa, who beat UANL 3-2.
Monterrey handed former Argentina midfielder Americo Gallego his first defeat as Toluca coach with a 2-1 victory over the Red Devils 2-1.
Panamanian defender Felipe Baloy scored twice in the first 11 minutes to set Monterrey on their way. Jose Abundis replied for Toluca on the half hour.
UNAM striker Antonio de Nigris, who was jeered by the club's fans during a dire 0-0 draw with San Luis on Sunday, was on target as the Pumas drew 1-1 away to Veracruz.
De Nigris, again booed by the small contingent of UNAM supporters in the crowd, turned in a Jose Luis Lopez cross to give Hugo Sanchez's team the lead in the 33rd minute.
Uruguayan Gustavo Biscayzacu equalised for the Red Sharks in the 75th minute.
