England: Aston Villa's Solano loses red card appeal [Fri Aug 26th, 2005]

Aston Villa's Nolberto Solano will have to serve a three-match suspension after losing his appeal against the red card he received against Portsmouth on Tuesday.

The Peruvian winger was dismissed for appearing to throw an elbow at Richard Hughes during the early stages of the 1-1 draw at Fratton Park, but Villa boss David O'Leary felt the incident wasn't worthy of a red card.

O’Leary said: "He just brushed the fellow off. Hughes went down like a sack of God-knows-what and now he stands to be banned for three games."

However, the FA's disciplinary panel have stood by the referee's decision.
