England: Blackburn captain Todd charged with violent conduct [Fri Aug 26th, 2005]

London (Reuters) - The English Football Association has charged Blackburn Rovers defender Andy Todd with violent conduct following an incident involving Tottenham Hotspur's Andy Reid during their Premier League match.

The Blackburn captain appeared to headbutt Reid in an off-the-ball altercation which left the Spurs midfielder on the ground.

Although the referee missed the incident at the time, the FA decided to take action against the 30-year-old after reviewing video footage of the game.

A disciplinary commission will hear the case on September 1 and Todd has until next Tuesday to deny the charge.

Todd was found not guilty of a similar charge following last season's FA Cup semi-final when his elbow connected with Robin van Persie during Blackburn's defeat by Arsenal in Cardiff.
