England: Jol signs new Tottenham contract [Fri Aug 26th, 2005]
Tottenham Hotspur head coach Martin Jol has signed a new three-year contract, the Premier League club announced.
Jol, who took over when Frenchman Jacques Santini resigned last November, guided the team to ninth in the league last season and has begun the new campaign with two wins and a draw.
"I have always been fully committed to this great club and am delighted that it, in turn has such confidence in me," the Dutchman, who was a target of Ajax last season, said.
"The club has assembled what is probably the youngest squad in the Premier League and optimism is high because the potential here is terrific.
"The future looks good and I want to be part of it. There is still a lot of hard work to do but I have always been determined to see the job through and that remains my full focus."
Club chairman Daniel Levy will be delighted to secure Jol's services, especially after the ill-fated appointment of Frenchman Santini and sporting director Frank Arnesen's defection to Chelsea in June.
"In his role as head coach Martin has demonstrated his commitment and value to us and has brought a real sense of optimism to our squad and our fans," Levy told the club's website.
Tottenham could go top if they end a 15-year wait for a league victory against Chelsea at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
