England: Stelios signs new Bolton deal [Fri Aug 26th, 2005]
Stelios Giannakopoulos has finally signed a new contract with Bolton, ending a summer of speculation over the Greek midfielder's future.
The 31-year-old has been the subject of interest from Manchester City and Liverpool in the past few months, but he's now decided to stay with Bolton.
The Euro 2004 winner had less than a year to run on his previous deal, but has now penned a three-year deal to stay at the Reebok Stadium.
The Trotters boss Sam Allardyce said: "I’m delighted that we can put all the speculation behind us. I was concerned earlier this week we might lose him but in the end he wanted to stay loyal to me and the club."
He added: "Throughout, Stelios has been very professional and he can now look forward to playing his best football at Bolton.
"He is a terrific little player and a real match winner. I hope we can move on now and try to add to the squad before the transfer window closes."
