Iranian star secures Hamburg future [Fri Aug 26th, 2005]
Iran’s talented winger Mehdi Mahdavikia seems to have secured his future with Bundesliga outfit Hamburg SV.
As reported by Football Asia, the 28-year-old endured a disappointing season in 2004/05 and his future seemed to be elsewhere as he struggled to get near the starting eleven, but he drew praise from coach Thomas Doll as he came off the bench to help the German outfit to qualify for the UEFA Cup by defeating Spanish side Valenica in the final of the InterToto cup.
"He has reported back in an impressive manner. This was a great professional appearance on his part,†enthused Doll. “This was the proper answer to all the criticism which he had to face. This speaks for his character. In this form, he deserves the chance to play from the beginning.â€
The 2003 Asian Player of the Year should now be in the starting line up for the weekend to face Hannover 96 and his Iranian national team-mate Vahid Hashemian.
