France: Lyon complete signing of Chelsea midfielder Tiago [Sat Aug 27th, 2005]

Lyon (Reuters) - French champions Olympique Lyon have completed the signing of Chelsea's Tiago.

The Portuguese international is a straight replacement in midfield for Ghanaian Michael Essien, who moved in the opposite direction last week to join the English champions.

"Lyon and the player (Tiago) have come to an agreement and a deal has been set between the two sides," a spokesman for the Ligue 1 team told Reuters while refusing to disclose the transfer fee.

According to French media reports, Lyon were ready to pay up to 10 million euros (US$12.32 million) for the 24-year-old.

Tiago, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in July 2004, played 34 games for the Londoners and scored four goals.

Essien cost Chelsea a club record fee, which was put at 38 million euros by Lyon.

Unbeaten Lyon, who share the lead with Paris St Germain after four matches in Ligue 1, visit Auxerre on Sunday.
