Brazil: Cruzeiro's Fred new Lyon number 9 [Sat Aug 27th, 2005]
The Cruzeiro management confirmed the sale of marksman Fred to Olympique Lyon late tonight. Although they are not publicly offering a figure, sources close to several directors say the deal is worth close to 12 million Euros.
A few details still need resolving, namely the percentage of federative rights to be bought. The Raposa initially fixed 80% of the player at around 10 million, the remainder being shared between Feyenoord (10% - fruit of a lacklustre first European experience) and the player and his entourage.
Cruzeiro president Alvimar Perrella, football director Eduardo Maluf, Fred’s manager Rodrigo Chaves and the Lyon negotiators closed the deal in under 48 hours.
The leading Brasileirão goalscorer (13 in 22 games) should be hopping the pond to France today, not even being able to bid farewell to his fans in the Mineirão.
