Robinho faces disciplinary action in Brazil over slap [Sat Aug 27th, 2005]

Rio de Janeiro (Reuters) - Real Madrid's new striker Robinho could face disciplinary action in his native Brazil after television footage showed him slapping an opponent during his last game for Santos.

"I'm going to ask for the video to decide on a possible punishment," Luiz Zveiter, president of Brazilian football's disciplinary commission, told reporters.

Pictures showed Robinho slapping Paysandu midfielder Maraba in the face on Wednesday. Santos rallied from 2-0 down to win the match 3-2.

Zveiter said any possible punishment would only take effect if Robinho returned to play in Brazilian club football.

"The tribunal has to enforce the rules, independently of the player's situation," he said. "The punishment will not apply abroad."
