Brazil: Palmeiras president Della Monica confirms Marcos renewal [Sat Aug 27th, 2005]
World Cup-winning goalkeeper Marcos spent the day together with his agent and Palmeiras president Afonso Della Monica, coming out with a fresh contract that will see the player’s link with the Verdão extended until 2009, according to reports in Brazilian daily ‘Estado de Sao Paulo’.
This puts to an amicable end the growing speculation surrounding Marcos’ future. With the new agreement, the 32-year-old keeper should see out his career at the Parque Antártica, complete with added salary bonuses.
Two recent proposals forced Palmeiras to act fast, as Santos and an investment group had both offered Marcos improved conditions. A formal signing will dovetail perfectly with the club’s 91st anniversary celebrations, and also lays to rest any rumours of a rift between Marcos and Emerson Leão.
