US: Kansas City 0, Columbus 1 [Sat Aug 27th, 2005]
The Columbus Crew have won two matches straight for the second straight month and have won four of their last seven -- including this 1-0 victory at Kansas City, which is the Ohio club's first away victory of the year.
But the real story is how Kansas City squandered an opportunity to take three points at home over the last place team in the East, which would leave them in first place heading into Saturday's fixtures.
A Chris Henderson goal just beyond the half-hour was enough to hand Columbus all three points. To the visitors' credit they were the aggressors in the opening forty-five, and it paid off with the winner. Forward Cornell Glen was particularly active, although none of his efforts went for goals.
David Testo caught Wizards' keeper Bo Oshoniyi unawares on 25 minutes with a low shot that Bo had to force onto the post. But Henderson finally put Columbus deservedly in front, hitting a ball off a defender and then the post after taking a pass from midfielder Kyle Marino.
Kansas City never really got a clear-cut equalising chance until the game's final ten minutes when two efforts failed; one missed and one was saved by goalkeeper Jonny Walker.
Diego Gutierrez was sent off late on with two consecutive yellow cards, to add insult to injury for the home supporters.
