Brosque wary of NZ Knights [Sat Aug 27th, 2005]
Queensland Roar striker Alex Brosque expects New Zealand's defence in Sunday's A-League clash at Suncorp Stadium to be a much tougher proposition to the one that was dramatically exposed in pre-season.
Brosque and fellow forward Royce Brownlie ripped the Knights' defensive unit apart in the only previous encounter between the teams, which finished in a 5-0 thumping for the Roar.
But the former Australian international believes New Zealand coach John Adshead will be out to prove a point, having had an extra month to work with his defenders.
"I don't think it'll be the same scoreline this time round, although I'd like it to be, because they'll be better for the pre-season they had," Brosque said.
"When we played them they had hardly had any time together and their fitness was a little down.
"We blew them away with three goals in the last 10 minutes, but it's going to be a lot tougher this time around."
Brosque will again be the focus of Roar coach Miron Bleiberg's attacking force with Brownlie, Reece Tollenaere, Jonathan Richter and Michael Baird also included in the squad.
The final make-up of the side won't be known until Sunday however, with Bleiberg keeping everyone guessing after the team's final training session was closed off to the media.
Brosque said Queensland wanted to show off its attacking wares against the Knights and send a message to other A-League sides.
"It's Miron's philosophy that no matter how many goals they score, we'll score one more," he said.
Roar officials were quietly confident of attracting a crowd of around 20,000 after ticket sales closed in on the 15,000 mark, with Bleiberg promising to deliver an "attractive" style of football.
"We will try to play open, attractive and attacking football," he said.
