England: Tottenham loan Ziegler to Hamburg [Wed Aug 31st, 2005]

Tottenham have agreed to loan their highly-rated Swiss international Reto Ziegler to German outfit Hamburg.

The 19-year-old had a superb first season at White Hart Lane, making 31 first team appearances, which helped him break into the Swiss national side.

However, as Martin Jol continues to improve his squad, it was feared he will lack the first-team action that will aid his development.

Jol was keen to stress that Ziegler is still very much part of his plans.

"Reto is a very big talent, but we have Andy Reid and Edgar Davids in his position. He had a strong season for us but he now needs to play more games. With this being possible at another very good team it is an excellent opportunity for Reto," said the Dutchman.

"He is a young lad and I have agreed with Reto that it will be good for him to go away and get more experience, but he is still a player for our future."
