England: Everton swoop for Dutch midfielder van der Meyde [Wed Aug 31st, 2005]

London (Reuters) - Inter Milan's Dutch international midfielder Andy van der Meyde has joined Everton for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old former Ajax Amsterdam player signed a four-year contract with the Premier League club after passing a medical on transfer deadline day.

"I am happy I can play for Everton because it is such a nice club," van der Meyde told the club's official website.

"I believe in the team and the club and the manager (David Moyes) and I believe it will be a good year for us. In the last few years the club have been getting better every year."

Van der Meyde, who has played only 32 Serie A games for Inter in the last two years, has a minor groin strain but should be fit to make his Everton debut before the end of September.
