Portugal: Benfica midfielder Petit to miss World Cup qualifiers [Wed Aug 31st, 2005]
Lisbon (Reuters) - Benfica midfielder Armando Petit will miss Portugal's World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg and Russia after sustaining a thigh injury, the Portuguese football federation said on their website.
The 28-year-old midfielder suffered the injury in Benfica's 2-0 home defeat by Gil Vicente.
Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has decided against naming a replacement.
Portugal are top of Group Three with 20 points from eight games. They host Luxembourg in Faro on September 3 before travelling to Moscow four days later.
