Under-17 World Cup (Peru): Cláudio called up to replace Kerlon for Brazil [Wed Aug 31st, 2005]
With a noteworthy performance against São Caetano, Palmeiras’ latest pearl is Cláudio. His work has been rewarded with a call-up to the youth seleção to compete in the World Championship to be held in Peru. Brazil have been drawn in Group D, alongside Holland, Gambia and Qatar.
Cláudio will have the uphill task of standing in for Cruzeiro’s Kerlon, the young midfielder who wowed the world with his ‘seal dribble’, but who is undergoing surgery on a recurring ankle injury that has eroded his cartilage.
The seleção duties will take Cláudio away from the Parque Antártica until October 2nd, but he’ll be in the company of fellow Palmeirense VinÃÂcius. The other hot property to watch in Peru will be Anderson; the skilful attacking midfielder from Grêmio (halfway to Porto but still not a done deal) who is touted as the next Ronaldinho.
