Italy: Proposed Bologna takeover [Thu Sep 1st, 2005]
Italian basketball outfit Virtus Bologna have made a proposal to acquire Bologna football club.
Virtus are looking to help the Rossoblu outfit, who were relegated to Serie B in June, having lost their playoff battle against Parma.
"Virtus Basketball Bologna have presented a preliminary offer today to acquire 100% of the capital of Bologna Football Club," said a statement on the club's official website, www.virtus.it.
Virtus owner Claudio Sabatini has been successful in helping one of Italy's most prestigious basketball clubs return to the limelight since his arrival at Bologna 22 months ago.
Virtus recently gained promotion to Lega A, having been relegated to the LegaDue after the 2002-03 campaign due to financial problems.
