Portugal: Slovakia defender Cech joins Porto [Thu Sep 1st, 2005]

Lisbon (Reuters) - Slovakia defender Marek Cech has joined Porto from Sparta Prague on a four-year contract, the Portuguese Premier League club said on their website.

The 22-year-old is expected to take over the left side vacated by Nuno Valente, who has moved to Everton.

No details of the transfer were given.

Cech, who has played nine internationals, becomes the eighth signing since Dutch coach Co Adriaanse took charge of Porto in June.

Porto have started the season with two successive wins.
