Scotland: Celtic sign China defender Du Wei [Thu Sep 1st, 2005]

Glasgow (Reuters) - Celtic have signed Chinese international defender Du Wei from Shanghai Shenhua on a four-year deal, the Scottish club have confirmed.

The Glasgow club secured a work permit for Du earlier this week, and he flew to the city to sign the contract ahead of the transfer deadline.

The 23-year-old spent a week on trial at Celtic last month, but Shenua Shanghai were unhappy with the former European champions' initial bid.

Du, who will be presented at a news conference later on, has won 12 caps and is to captain China's team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
