Final transfer flurry in Spain [Thu Sep 1st, 2005]

The final 24 hours before the transfer deadline saw a flurry of activity in Spain as several Primera Liga sides rushed to put the finishing touches to their squads for the new season.

Real Madrid's 27 million euro capture of Sevilla's Sergio Ramos was the biggest move of the day, and it was not the only deal Sevilla were involved in.

Striker Antonito moved to Racing Santander on a year's loan, while the club moved quickly to replace Ramos by signing central defender Ivica Dragutinovic from Standard Liege.

Deportivo La Coruna replaced Albert Luque, who last week joined Newcastle United, with Uruguayan Sebastian Taborda.

Hector Cuper's Mallorca were also busy in the transfer market as having lost their opening game of the season 1-0 at home to Deportivo, they opted to boost their attacking options.

Cuper brought in Getafe striker Yordi and Internazionale's Greek striker Lambros Choutos, while he also secured the services of midfielder Cristiano Doni from Sampdoria.

Real Sociedad signed Atletico Madrid midfielder Alvaro Novo, who has had a miserable two seasons in the capital after leaving Mallorca, but failed in their bid to capture Brazilian striker Thiago Quirino.

Quirino was in San Sebastian, but left without reaching an agreement with the club.

Finally, newly-promoted Celta Vigo made their 13th and 14th signings of the northern summer by capturing Ajax midfielder Daniel de Ridder and taking Matias Lequi on loan.

Lequi previously spent a season with Atletico Madrid and the Lazio stopper will add to what had looked a shaky backline.
