Mexico: LaVolpe leaves Blanco behind [Thu Sep 1st, 2005]

Mexico manager Ricardo LaVolpe announced his squad for the World Cup qualifying match with the United States earlier this week. The absence of Cuauhtémoc Blanco headlines the list.

The Club America striker also was left off for Mexico's qualifier against Costa Rica last month. But the Tricolores have plenty of weapons at the ready for the Americans. Mexico also will be without Blanco’s Club America teammate, midfielder Pavel Pardo who is suspended.

New Bolton Wanderers striker Jared Borgetti and Chivas Guadalajara forward Omar Bravo have enough quality between them to threaten the US, whom they defeated 2-1 back in March.

Complete squad:

Goalkeepers -- Oswaldo Sanchez, Moises Munoz.

Defenders -- Rafael Marquez, Ricardo Osorio, Francisco Rodriguez, Carlos Salcido, Mario Mendez.

Midfielders -- Gonzalo Pineda, Carlos Morales, Oscar Rojas, Gerardo Diaz, Gerardo Galindo, Ramon Morales, Antonio Naelson, Luis Perez.

Forwards -- Alberto Medina, Francisco Fonseca, Jared Borgetti, Omar Bravo.
