Korea: K-League- Kim breaks record and Suwon go top [Thu Sep 1st, 2005]
Kim Do-hoon broke the K-League goalscoring record last night with a hat-trick to take his tally to 113 goals in 251 games as Seongnam Ilhwa defeated leaders Incheon United 4-2.
It was ‘The Bomber’s’ fifth goal in two games and his team’s ninth. The win makes it two wins from two for the six-time champs, who sit one point behind leaders Suwon with a game in hand.
After winning 5-1 at Chonbuk Motors at the weekend, Seongnam fell behind to a goal from Incheon’s Brazilian star Da Silva. However, Kim stepped up in the second half with two excellent headers and a penalty. Strike partner Mota scored the fourth, and the pair have bagged eight goals between them in the opening two games.
Suwon Samsung Bluewings went top with a regulation 2-0 win at Chunnam Dragons. Kim Dong-hyun put the defending champions ahead in the third minute and a late goal from Itamar sealed the win and three points, suggesting that after a tough first stage, the three-time title winners are finding their form again.
The first stage wasn’t tough for Pusan I-cons, who finished first, but last night’s defeat at Daejeon Citizen makes it two losses in two games for Ian Porterfield’s side. Again, Pusan took the lead in the first half through Da Silva, but again the south coast team allowed the opposition back in it.
Halfway through the second half, Leandro fired home from the spot to put the Citizen level and on 80 minutes Feijao scored the winner to lift the improving club into second place.
On the way they passed FC Seoul, who went down 2-1 at Pohang Steelers. The Steelers new Brazilian striker Wellington scored a goal in each half to give last season’s runners-up the cushion that became necessary when Lee Won-shik pulled a goal back for Seoul in the last minute.
Bucheon SK maintained their 100% record with a great win at Ulsan Hyundai Horang-I, courtesy of a 59th minute own goal by Yoo Kyoung-ryeol. Bucheon could go top at the weekend, as they are the team in the top half in action.
In the night’s other game, Daegu FC piled on the misery for Gwangju Sangmu with a 1-0 victory.
Top 5 standings:
1: Suwon 7 2: Daejeon 7 3: Seongnam 6 4: Bucheon 6 5: Daegu 6
