US coach Arena releases five for club duty [Fri Sep 2nd, 2005]
US head coach Bruce Arena released five MLS players from his World Cup camp so they can play for their club teams over the weekend.
New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis and team-mate Clint Dempsey are not in Arena's plans for the Mexico qualifier on Saturday. Reis's absence solidifies Reading goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann as Kasey Keller's backup on Saturday.
Chicago Fire midfielder Justin Mapp, who has yet to make his senior debut, also was given the pink slip, as were FC Dallas defender Greg Vanney and Columbus defender Chad Marshall.
Arena did say he may recall any and all of these fringe players for the midweek qualifier against Guatemala, which would not be a surprise if the Americans qualify for Germany on Saturday.
Also missing out of Saturday's qualifier is Bobby Convey. The Reading midfielder is suspended for the Mexico tie after being sent off against Trinidad & Tobago last month.
