Italy's Vieri ready to face Scots despite dizzy spells [Fri Sep 2nd, 2005]

Rome (Reuters) - AC Milan striker Christian Vieri is available for Italy's World Cup qualifier against Scotland in Glasgow despite suffering dizzy spells during training.

The 32-year-old striker, who is expected to spearhead Italy's attack with Alberto Gilardino and Francesco Totti, was forced to sit out training after feeling sick during a practice match.

"It was just a momentary problem caused by bad digestion. The player is available for selection gainst Scotland," Enrico Castellacci, the head of the Azzurri's medical staff, was quoted as saying in La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Should Vieri suffer another bout of sickness, Italy coach Marcello Lippi could call on Fiorentina striker Luca Toni or Udinese's Vincenzo Iaquinta to fill in.

A win in Glasgow followed by another away victory in their next qualifier against Belarus on September 7 would put Italy within touching distance of next year's World Cup finals in Germany.

The Azzurri currently top qualifying Group Five with 13 points from six matches, four points ahead of second-placed Norway.
