Brazil: US$3 million Alex Dias bid rejected by Vasco [Fri Sep 2nd, 2005]
Vasco fans can breathe a sigh of relief as President Eurico Miranda rejected a US$3 million bid from a group of French entrepreneurs eager to take the marksman over to an unnamed French club.
With the club flirting with relegation, the loss of their prized striker would be a virtual bolt-gun to the head of hopes to maintain the team afloat in the Brasileirão first division.
The key was Miranda’s insistence on payment in full of the US$5 million compensation written into the striker’s contract. Too rich for the businessmen’s blood, they retreated and the transfer window ihas now been closed.
Good news for Romário, Renato Gaúcho and supporters of the Maltese cross club as well as Dias, who is slated to receive a substantial raise to cover any frustration.
