Brazilians and Argentines clash in Copa Sudamericana [Fri Sep 2nd, 2005]
The next round of the Copa Sudamericana will include two passionate knockout matches as Brazilian and Argentine clubs come head to head.
Highly-rated Corinthians will face Argentine glamour club River Plate in what should be the most exciting series of the tournament, while Flamengo, of Rio de Janeiro, will have a tough encounter with Argentine Clausura runners-up Banfield.
Last night Corinthians drew 1-1 at home with Goias, but went on to win the series 3-1 on aggregate after a good away win in the first leg. Former Boca star Carlos Tevez was dismissed after attacking a Goias player, and will sit out the first leg of the match against his previous club's ultimate enemy River Plate.
Fluminense, who knocked out Brazilian champions Santos after a penalty shootout last night, will face Banfield, who qualified after beating Estudiantes La Plata 3-2 on aggregate.
Cruzeiro should be able to book a ticket to the next round after defeating Juventude 3-1 away from home a couple of weeks ago, while Copa Libertadores champions Sao Paulo entertain Internacional, and are hoping to turn around a 2-1 scoreline in favour of the side from Porto Alegre.
