Brazil: Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos injuries not serious [Mon Sep 5th, 2005]

Brasilia (Reuters) - Striker Ronaldo and defender Roberto Carlos limped out of Brazil's 5-0 World Cup qualifying win over Chile, but their injuries were not serious, the team said.

Roberto Carlos, taken off in the second half after falling awkwardly on his knee, got away with a knock, team doctor Jose Luis Runco told reporters.

"It was a hard knock on the inside of his right knee," said Runco, adding that the player should be fit to play in Tuesday's friendly against Spanish club side Sevilla. "I don't think it will be a problem."

Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira also said that the muscular problem which prompted Ronaldo to leave the game at half-time was also nothing to worry about.

"He had felt some muscular discomfort during the week and asked to go off," said Parreira. "But he went off in one piece. It was just a precaution."

Brazil's victory secured their passage to the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany.
