World Cup qualifying: Bosnia beat Belgium to revive finals hopes [Mon Sep 5th, 2005]

Zenica (Reuters) - Sergej Barbarez's second half goal gave Bosnia a 1-0 win over Belgium, reviving their hopes of qualifying from World Cup Group Seven.

The hosts controlled the game early on, but the closest they came to scoring in the first half was when Barbarez's 18-metre free kick in the 14th minute swerved past Silvio Proto's right post.

Barbarez struck from close range in the 62nd minute after Ninoslan Milenkovic nodded on a corner.

Proto, Belgium's best player, made three good stops in the last 15 minutes to deny Bosnia a second.

A disappointing Belgium failed to create a serious goalscoring chance in the match.

With three games to play, Bosnia are third on 10 points behind Serbia and Montenegro on 15 and Spain on 13. Belgium have eight points.

Bosnia visit Lithuania, who have nine points, on Wednesday.
