Mexico: Tena becomes fourth coach this year at Chiapas [Tue Sep 13th, 2005]

Mexico City (Reuters) - Luis Fernando Tena has become the fourth coach this year at Mexican club Chiapas, as he replaced former Mexico international Fernando Quirarte.

"I hope he gets us better results," club president Antonio Leonardo said in a radio interview.

Tena has already won Mexican league titles with Cruz Azul and Morelia.

Quirarte was the third coaching victim of the new Mexican season when he was fired after Sunday's 5-1 defeat at Pachuca.

"When the expectations aren't met and the numbers aren't good enough, then this happens," said Quirarte, a defender who played in the 1986 World Cup. "After a chat with the directors, they made the decision."

The team known as the Jaguars, based in the southern city of Tuxtla Gutierrez, have four points from seven games in the Apertura championship, the first of two tournaments played in the 2005/6 season.

Quirarte was in charge for 15 games after replacing Antonio 'The Turk' Mohammed, who lasted just six games, in early April.

The season began in August and Benjamin Galindo was the first coach to lose his job when he was sacked by Guadalajara, Mexico's most popular club, after three games.

He was replaced by Spaniard Xabier Azkargorta, who led Bolivia to the 1994 World Cup finals.

Next to go was Carlos Bracamontes, who was fired by Sinaloa and replaced by another Spaniard, Juan Manuel Lillo.
