US: Colorado sign Kirovski, Serna [Thu Sep 15th, 2005]

The Colorado Rapids have signed striker Jovan Kirovski from the Los Angeles Galaxy and also acquired Colombian forward Diego Serna.

Former Manchester United forward Kirovski scored 12 goals and claimed six assists in 48 games over nearly two seasons with the Galaxy and this year, he had four strikes and four assists in 24 games.

In exchange for the USA international, the Rapids sent their 2007 first-round draft pick to the Galaxy.

"We are very grateful to Jovan for his services both on and off the field and wish him all the best in the future," Galaxy president and general manager Doug Hamilton said.

"Not only do we gain a valuable draft pick in return for Jovan, but we open up a valued squad spot, which we will fill prior to the September 15 deadline."

Despite an almost two-year break from MLS, Serna still ranks 11th all-time with 57 goals and 15th with 42 assists in six years in the league.

During his four years with the now-defunct Miami Fusion from 1998-2001, the Colombian had 52 goals and 36 assists, and he also had brief stints with the MetroStars (2002), New England Revolution (2002) and Los Angeles (2003).

He has spent the last two years with Once Caldas and Deportivo Quindio in his homeland.
