US: Salt Lake striker Kreis ruled out for the season [Thu Sep 15th, 2005]

Real Salt Lake striker Jason Kreis, Major League Soccer's all-time leading goalscorer, has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Kreis, who has 100 career goals, partially tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in training.

He also tore the same ligament in 2003 when he was with the Dallas Burn.

"I fully expect to come back for the 2006 MLS season quicker and stronger than ever," Kreis said. "I expect to meet with US Soccer's top surgeon, Dr Bert Mandelbaum, in two weeks to determine my medical course of action."

The 32-year-old forward has scored nine goals for the expansion Salt Lake club, who are 12 points behind Colorado for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, this season.

But three of Real's final seven games are against the Rapids.

Kreis' injury occurred as Real prepared for Saturday's visit to Dallas, where he spent the first nine seasons of his career.
