England: Newcastle striker Luque faces two-month absence [Thu Sep 15th, 2005]

Newcastle (Reuters) - Newcastle United's Spain striker Albert Luque faces two months out after rupturing his hamstring in the 1-1 draw at Fulham, the Premier League club said.

The 27-year-old, who joined United for 9.5 million pounds (US$17.33 million) from Deportivo La Coruna last month, was carried off on a stretcher 10 minutes before half-time.

Manager Graeme Souness expected the forward to be missing for six weeks but the results of a scan have revealed a rupture that will keep Luque out of action "for eight to 10 weeks", Newcastle's official website said.

Luque, who made his debut against Manchester United at St James' Park in Newcastle's previous league match on August 28, joins a raft of players on the sidelines including Kieron Dyer, Emre, Craig Moore, Michael Chopra and Steven Taylor.

However, Taylor hopes to be fit for the visit to Blackburn Rovers in the league on Sunday, while Emre may be ready to face Manchester City at home the following Saturday.
