Argentina: Colon coach resigns [Thu Sep 15th, 2005]
Gerardo Martino has resigned as coach of Colon, the club from the province of Santa Fe.
Colon president Horacio Darras confirmed that Martino had quit and added that reserve team coach Mario Sciaqua will be in charge for this weekend's clash against Banfield and until a replacement is appointed.
Martino is the second coach in the last two weeks to step down after Leonardo Astrada left giants River Plate.
Colon have only four points after six rounds of Argentina's Apertura tournament, having won only one match, 4-3 against newly-promoted Tiro Federal.
The 1-1 home draw against Newell's Old Boys was the last in charge for Martino who wanted to leave after Colon's heavy 4-2 defeat against Quilmes, but the triumph over Tiro Federal gave him some breathing room.
Other candidates to replace Martino are former Argentinos Juniors boss Osvaldo Sosa and two men who used to manage Velez Sarsfield - Osvaldo Piazza and Carlos Ischia, who has just resigned from Colombian club Junior.
