Brazil: Mario Jardel signs Goias deal [Fri Sep 16th, 2005]
Former Porto and Galatasaray striker Mario Jardel has joined Brazilian outfit Goias on a short-term contract.
The 31-year-old, who has also had spells with Ancona, Bolton, Gremio, Palmeiras and Newell's Old Boys, has signed a contract until December 31 and has been drafted in by coach Geninho with Goias still in with a chance of claiming the Campeonato Brasileiro title.
They are currently in third place in the standings, just one point behind leaders Fluminense.
Jardel, the 1999 Golden Boot winner, scored 130 goals in 125 matches for Porto.
He has been training with French side Nancy following his release from Alaves and had been close to signing for Ankaraspor in Turkey.
The striker was the leading scorer in South America's Copa Libertadores in 1995 when playing for Gremio.
