US: New England sign Kiwi international [Fri Sep 16th, 2005]
The New England Revolution have signed New Zealand international Tony Lochhead as a senior international before the MLS transfer deadline.
The All Whites defender was a 2005 MLS SuperDraft pick for the Revs out of the University of California - Santa Barbara (UCSB), and he will join the team's developmental squad once his work visa is approved.
"Tony is a tough and experienced defender," said Revolution head coach Steve Nicol. "He has a track record as a full international and comes from one of the top college programs in the country."
Lochhead, who earned numerous accolades at UCSB, represented his country during Oceania World Cup qualifying, and in 2004 he was named New Zealand Soccer’s Young International Player of the Year.
The Revs also completed one other transaction yesterday, when they waived Kyle Singer. The reserve goalkeeper made one appearance for New England from 2003-2005.
