Belgium: Butina set to leave Club Bruges [Fri Sep 16th, 2005]
Goalkeeper Tomislav Butina is set to leave Club Bruges in the summer after rejecting the offer of a one-year contract extension.
The 31-year-old Croatia international, who joined Bruges in 2003, was expecting a longer offer.
"It's not acceptable," said a disillusioned Butina. "I would have loved to see my career end at Bruges.
"It's a shame that things are going like they are now. I am not angry but I am surprised."
Although Butina claims he has not been told why he hasn't been offered a longer deal, it is thought that manager Marc Degryse is ready to give his younger players a chance to develop.
The 24-year-old Stijn Stijnen showed his potential in the UEFA Champions League clash with Juventus in midweek, while Glenn Verbauwhede, 20, is also a prospect for the future.
"I didn't get any explanation why I could only get one more year," said Butina. "But it is the free choice of the club.
"Luckily enough this situation has occurred very early in the season. That gives my manager the chance to look for a good new club during the rest of the season."
