Adelaide United focus is only on Perth [Sat Sep 17th, 2005]

Coach John Kosmina and his Adelaide United team have arrived in Perth, focused solely on the A-League clash with Perth Glory.

Adelaide have surprised many with their impressive start to the season.

With two wins and a draw, United were a game clear at the top of the table before the start of round four, and are the only team yet to concede a goal in the competition.

Adelaide's attack, which has scored just two goals in the three games, will also be boosted over the coming weeks with ex-Chinese international striker Shengqing Qu back from injury and Brazilian forward Fernando Rech added to the Reds 20-man squad.

The 31-year-old played for Kosmina at the Brisbane Strikers in the old National Soccer League competition, scoring 28 goals in 68 appearances over three years, before joining grand finalists Parramatta Power in the last season of the competition.

Rech won NSL player-of-the-year honours in 2001-02, and will arrive in Adelaide on Monday to sign a two-year deal with the club.

He replaces Aurelio Vidmar in the squad after the former Australian international retired before the start of the season to become Kosmina's assistant.

"Fernando has that touch of typical Brazilian flair, which makes him unique to the game in this country," Kosmina said.

Qu, Adelaide's marquee signing, will likely make his long awaited A-League debut off the bench after overcoming a calf injury.

Kosmina admits maintaining his side's unbeaten streak against the Glory will be a tough ask.

"(Bobby) Despotovski's a quality striker, he's a good sniffer, he gets into good areas and Brian Deane, we haven't played against him yet, but we've seen him play and he puts himself about," Kosmina said.

"And Perth get numbers forward as well, they get people making runs into the box so it's going to be difficult for us."
