US: MLS Preview- Chivas USA v San Jose EarthQuakes [Sat Sep 17th, 2005]

CD Chivas USA (3-19-5, 14 pts) v San Jose EarthQuakes (14-4-8, 50 pts)

When: 10:00pm EST, Saturday, September 17th, 2005

Where: Home Depot Center, Carson, California

It’s Hispanic Heritage Night at the Home Depot Center as Chivas and San Jose finish up a home and home series. Last week the Quakes crushed the Goats 3-0, but with several players banged up and not too much to play for right now, this Saturday should be different.

After getting everyone’s hopes up when the transfer window opened up, Chivas have lost their last two matches 3-0, and have been eliminated from playoff contention. Of course we knew they wouldn’t make it months ago, but now it is official.

This week Brad Guzan is a possible return to the net as Sergio Garcia is suffering from a hip pointer. El Guzano should never have been benched in the first place.

San Jose are sitting pretty on top of the Western Conference, with home field advantage a virtual lock. The only remaining challenge for them is the Supporters Shield, which will likely be a dogfight to the end with New England.

Brad Davis is still doubtful with a groin strain, and Kelly Gray and Eddie Robinson aren’t 100% either. Playing the worst team in the league with the conference won, this might be a good week for Dominic Kinnear to give the boys some rest.

While the home advantage should be pushing Chivas along this weekend, a victory would be quite a feat for the Goats. The added energy should be enough to get them in the scoring column for the first time in three weeks, but the Quakes are just too dominant even without a few of their starters.

Brian Ching’s desire to get back to form should be enough for a San Jose win on Saturday night.
