Brazil: Vasco's Romário actually turns up for training [Sat Sep 17th, 2005]
Romário appears to be taking his Vasco duties more seriously once again, after a lapse back into the nightclubbing outings that have caused most of the Baixinho’s coaches to rip out handfuls of their own hair or grind teeth down to the roots.
Close friend Renato Gaúcho seems to have found the magic formula that gets the legendary number 11 to slip into bed before dawn, and take part in the training sessions he previously pooh-poohed as boring and unnecessary for a player like him.
The Baixinho helped Vasco to a 6-4 win in Thursday’s training game against local minnows Macaé, one of the preparations for the upcoming Sunday derby against São Paulo at their Morumbi stadium.
Romário will partner current Brasileirão top scorer Alex Dias in a duel of recovering giants. Visitors Vasco are 15th with 32 points, whereas São Paulo lag one place and one point behind the Cariocas.
