Spain: Primera Liga Saturday Preview [Sat Sep 17th, 2005]

A revitalised Valencia host a Deportivo La Coruna outfit on the road to recovery after a dismal 04/05.

Very few of Valencia’s new signings have made much of an impression so far this term, but the season is young. The old guard have picked up 4 points from the opening two games including a home win over Real Betis, while Deportivo have a 100% record with victory over Atletico Madrid last weekend.

In the past this fixture has been a huge event, with both sides challenging for the Liga title, but disappointing showings by each club last term tempered the excitement.

There remain questions marks over personnel in both teams this season. Joaquin Caparros has had very little to work with as far as new players are concerned at the Riazor, while Quique Flores as of yet has not formulated a side in his own image, and the new boys must be integrated soon.

Also on the night’s schedule, Mallorca are aiming to register their first points of the season with a result against Real Sociedad at Son Moix. The San Sebastian side responded well to an opening day drubbing against Bilbao with a win over fellow Basque club Alaves, while Hector Cuper’s team went down at Camp Nou last weekend.
