Brazil: Botafogo's Thiago Xavier passes out in training [Sun Sep 18th, 2005]
Friday’s Botafogo afternoon training session was suspended for almost 50 minutes after defensive midfielder Thiago Xavier collided with Juca and fell to the ground like a sack of potatoes.
Everybody at the Caio Martins Stadium froze, as memories of São Caetano defender Serginho’s death flashed back.
Right-back Ruy acted quickly, driving his car onto the pitch and taking the groggy player directly to Niterói’s Hospital das ClÃÂnicas. Xavier went through an exhaustive series of tests, despite feeling better, and Fogão doctors will be carefully analysing the results.
In light of the scare, coach Celso Roth won’t be able to count on the player for this weekend’s clash with high-flying Goiás at the Luso-Brasileiro Stadium.
The lone star attack should be formed by Guilherme and Reinaldo, and Zé Roberto has beaten Gláuber for the midfield spot left absent.
