Belgium: Liege overtake Anderlecht [Sun Sep 18th, 2005]
Standard Liege moved to the top of the Jupiler League with a 3-0 win at Cercle Bruges, as Anderlecht were held to a 1-1 draw by FC Brussels in the city derby.
Liege took an early lead with goals from Mohamed Tchite and Sergio Conceicao in the sixth and 15th minutes, and made sure of the points when Jonathan Walasiak added a third soon after the interval.
In Brussels, Anderlecht struggled to break down the home defence and only took the lead when Richard Culek turned the ball into his own net in the 70th minute.
However, Werry Sels salvaged a point for his side with nine minutes left.
Lokeren could join in the party at the top of the table if they win their game in hand, after substitute Stjepan Jukic scored a last-minute goal to give them a 2-1 win at St Truidense.
All the goals came in the final quarter of an hour. Hakim Bouchouari put the visitors ahead in the 75th minute, but Jeroen Simaeys soon levelled for St. Truidense.
The hosts suffered a double late blow as Egon Wisniowski was sent off in the last minute.
In the day's other game, Lierse and Charleroi played out a 0-0 draw.
