Japan: Kashima close gap as Gamba falter [Sun Sep 18th, 2005]

Tokyo (Reuters) - Kashima Antlers have reduced Gamba Osaka's lead at the top of the J-League to just one point with a 4-0 demolition of bottom club Vissel Kobe.

Japan midfielder Mitsuo Ogasawara pulled the strings for the Antlers at Kashima Stadium as Alex Mineiro, Masaki Fukai with two and Takuya Nozawa scored the goals.

Gamba crashed 2-1 at lowly Kashiwa Reysol and remain on 47 points from 24 games, one ahead of Kashima.

Jubilo Iwata held on to third spot, eight points behind Kashima, despite losing 2-0 away to Cerezo Osaka, while JEF United rose to fourth with the same number of points on the back of a 1-0 away win against Omiya Ardija.

Champions Yokohama F-Marinos were held to a 0-0 draw by FC Tokyo, who had Brazilian midfielder Lucas removed by ambulance after a clash of heads with a team mate.

In other games, Kawasaki Frontale beat Tokyo Verdy 2-1 away and Oita Trinita overcame Nagoya Grampus Eight 2-0 in Oita.
