Germany: Bundesliga match reports [Sun Sep 18th, 2005]

Frankfurt (Reuters) - Reports of matches played in the Bundesliga on Saturday:

COLOGNE 2 BORUSSIA MOENCHENGLADBACH 1

Cologne climbed up to fourth place with a third win from five games.

German international Lukas Podolski opened the scoring for the home side in the 12th minute when he poked the ball over Kasey Keller and Bjoern Schlicke headed in the second just before the half-hour mark.

Gladbach pulled one back with a penalty from Oliver Neuville nine minutes from time, but Cologne held on comfortably.

HAMBURG SV 1 EINTRACHT FRANKFURT 1

Hamburg paid the price for their UEFA Cup exertions against FC Copenhagen when they conceded a last-minute equaliser.

Captain Daniel van Buyten had given them a deserved lead five minutes from time, sweeping in from inside the box after his header had been blocked. Their joy was short-lived, though, when Cha Du-ri nodded in at the far post.

VfL WOLFSBURG 1 NUREMBERG 1

Andres d'Alessandro crossed for fellow Argentine Diego Klimowicz to head Wolfsburg into the lead in the 15th minute, but the home side missed chances to make the game safe and Nuremberg grabbed a draw with Markus Schroth's late equaliser.

BAYERN MUNICH 1 HANNOVER 96 0

Bayern set a new Bundesliga record with their 14th successive victory, their run of five out of five so far this term following a nine-match sequence at the end of last season.

Martin Demichelis scored the only goal, heading in a Willy Sagnol free kick in the ninth minute. Bayern were missing the injured Michael Ballack and created few other chances.

MAINZ 1 VfB STUTTGART 2

Stuttgart claimed their first league win of the season, a result that should ease the pressure on Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni.

Jon Dahl Tomasson's controlled left-foot volley gave Stuttgart the lead in the 76th minute.

Mainz equalised within 60 seconds with Nikolce Noveski's header but Mario Gomez earned the visitors the points when he lashed in from the edge of the box two minutes from time.

ARMINIA BIELEFELD 0 KAISERSLAUTERN 0

Bielefeld attacked relentlessly but miserly Kaiserslautern held on to secure the point for which they had been chasing. Isaac Boakye came closest in the 22nd minute when he took a pass from Sibusiso Zuma and struck a post.

WERDER BREMEN 3 BORUSSIA DORTMUND 2

Bremen recovered from their disappointing 2-0 defeat by Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League to secure a valuable win that keeps the pressure on leaders Bayern Munich.

Ebi Smolarek struck with a deflected shot to put Dortmund ahead in the eighth minute before Bremen took control, Miroslav Klose sweeping in eight minutes before the break and Ivan Klasnic lobbing the keeper nine minutes after the restart.

Smolarek struck again in the 69th minute after Jan Koller had won a crucial header, but Bremen took all three points thanks to an intended cross from Johan Micoud that wrong-footed the keeper in the 78th minute.
