Ten-man Queensland denied [Sun Sep 18th, 2005]

A ten-man Queensland Roar was denied victory over Melbourne after a last gasp controversial goal by Danny Allsopp ended the match a 1-1 draw at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

In an entertaining first half, the major talking point was Roar midfielder Matt McKay being sent off for a two-footed tackle on Steven Pantelidis.

The Victory began to control the match with their numerical advantage on either side of half-time, until a wonderful 63rd-minute strike by Michael Baird put the ten-man hosts ahead.

With the result seeming to be in the bag for Miron Bleiberg's men, an 88th minute goal by Allsopp earned the winless Victory a valuable away draw.

Substitute winger Vince Lia crossed from the right side for Allsopp to finish past Tom Willis with ease. However the assist narrowly dodged a clearly offside Archie Thompson, who was judged not to have interfered with play.
