In football action around the Americas, Cruz Azul retained the leadership of the Apertura tournament in Mexico after a crucial 2-1 away win at Tigres.

Francisco "Kikin" Fonseca and Argentinian midfielder Gabriel Pereyra put Cruz Azul 2-0 up before Argentinian striker Andres Silvera shortened the gap.

In Chile, giants Colo Colo played a 2-2 draw with Cobresal to retain their leadership in the Clausura tournament.

It was, however, a great result as they were losing 2-0 and showed an extraordinary recovery.

In Argentina, leaders San Lorenzo missed the chance to escape on top of the Apertura tournament after tying 1-1 with Lanus.

In another result, Estudiantes gave Tiro Federal their seventh consecutive defeat in the competition.

It was 1-0 thanks to Agustin Alayes and Tiro's coach Jorge Castelli resigned his contract.

In Peru, Clausura's leaders Sport Ancash lost 4-0 in their visit to their new next challengers Univ. San Martin, who are now on 13 points, four points behind Ancash.

In Brazil, giants Flamengo claimed a 2-0 victory over Sao Caetano to leave the relegation zone.

Palmeiras, with 10 men after Adriano was shown the red card, passed Cruzeiro 2-1.

In Uruguay, Rentistas are in first place of the Apertura tournament after beating Paysandu 1-0 as visitors, with a goal of Roberto Bobadilla seven minutes before the final whistle.

In Paraguay, Nacional became the sole leaders of the Clausura league after eclipsing nearest challengers Cerro Porteno 1-0, thanks to Hebert Arriola's penalty-goal.

In Costa Rica, Alajuelense hit Santacrucena 3-0 as visitors in the only Saturday's game, to join Herediano on top of the Apertura tournament's standings.

In Colombia, Bucaramanga beat giants Nacional 2-1 in the opening game of the Copa Mustang II's 11th round.

Finally in Venezuela, Deportivo Tachira trashed newly-promoted leaders Aragua 4-0 and joined them at the top of the Apertura tournament.
