Belgium: Bruges bounce back, Standard stay top [Mon Sep 19th, 2005]
Brussels (Reuters) - Belgian champions Club Bruges bounced back from their midweek UEFA Champions League defeat to Juventus with a 1-0 victory over Beveren.
Jeanvion Yulu Matondo followed up his goal against the Italians with the only goal on 31 minutes as Bruges joined Anderlecht on 14 points after six games, one point behind leaders Standard Liege.
Anderlecht were surprisingly held to a 1-1 draw by FC Brussels in a local derby.
A blunder by Anderlecht goalkeeper Silvio Proto allowed Werry Sels to equalise nine minutes from time, after an own goal by Richard Culek had given the visitors the lead in the 70th minute.
Standard got back to winning ways with a 3-0 drubbing of Cercle Bruges, who remain rooted to the foot of the table with just one point.
All three goals came in the opening half through Jonathan Walasiak, Sergio Conceicao and Mohammed Tchite.
Racing Genk secured their first win under coach Hugo Broos by defeating Zulte Waregem 3-1.
